History of the Mount Diablo Rose Society

Organized 1986
Written by Jenny Bauer

In the beginning, there were 26 rose enthusiasts who came together in September of 1986 to discuss plans for a new rose society to serve the Tri-Valley area. Many of these people were already members of the East Bay and other local rose societies, but desired to found a local society closer to home.

The first actual meeting took place on October 8 and was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Activities Room, in Dublin CA. The President of the East Bay Rose Society, Theo Kahle, presided.

Officers were installed by the Chair of District Membership, Rose Gilardi. Our first officers were:

President - David Lowell
Vice President - Mark Mintz
Treasurer - Tom McManus
Secretary - Annabel Peck
Director, 1986-87 - Carolyn Norman
Director, 1986 - George Cooley

The membership fees were $5.00 for a single membership and $7.50 for a family.

We have come a long way, Baby!
